My uncle, Edwin Fred McGraw Jr, lost his live on that tragic day in 1945. He was the only son of my Grandparents. I was less than a year old at the time, but his memory was always kept alive in our family. I treasure the letters my mother received from him (and even the one which was returned to her unopened and marked "undeliverable"). You have done a wonderful thing by creating this web site. I hope that in the near future, you will be able to receive photos of all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their families and country! God Bless and thank you.

I love to research all things about history. I found a a momento of my mom's in her estate that has the name G.L. Weyler on it and a date of 1901. I began to research his name. It took me to this website. I haven't found out much about Mr. Weyler but I was truly inspired by your website. Thank you for your work to maintain it.

Thanks for keeping the memory of DESRON 49 alive. My father served aboard the USS Stevens when it was attached to the squadron, and its great to see a picture of it on your website. Incidently, that photo was taken at Charleston, SC, where it was built. Notice it is carrying only 4 5-inch guns. Stevens was one of 4 Fletchers built that carried an OS2U Kingfisher floatplane. The catapult for launching the plane replaced the number 3 5-inch. Want to know more about the Stevens, send me an email.

Your Sigsbee at sea photo (your web page is a censored view of photo 80-G-321648, which I recently scanned at NARA at 300dpi, yielding a very large TIF file I'd be glad to send you. A cropped version appears on my web page

In return, I wonder if you could put me in contact with Dave Schroeder, or otherwise tell me where to find photo 19-N-48944 so I can scan it at equally high resolution. (You see I'm missing a photo of Schroeder on my list at, and would love to add that or a similar image, ideally at 480x950 pixels). I did not see a copy of it at the Naval Historical Center; might find on my next junket to NARA in College Park, but it'd be more fun to cite your web site as a source and link to it, if you'd be interested ...

Sincerely yours,

The latest photos of the cristening are fabulous!! My father, William E Burke has been sick for awhile and unable to travel. I wish that I was there for that, but I am looking at the date for Hawaii to just take a look at the DDG 93 in person. I was sorry to hear that the main group of the Sigsbee are having their reunion on the east coast again as I would like my father to hook up with them to enjoy the time there as with the west coast group. Please remember my dad in your prayers for a speedy recovery. Again, I want to thank both you and Billy for being so dedicated in the preservation of our fathers and relatives uncommmon and brave actions from common folks during our countries time of need. God speed!

Mr. Mastin, congratulations on putting together such a world-class site! What an incredible tribute to the men who sailed so bravely into harmís way and beyond!
It was a true honor to find myself in the midst of SIGSBEE Sailors over the christening weekend. I was happy to find their spirit alive and well, I can only hope we can infuse CHUNG-HOON with that same fighting spirit and determination. If first impressions are any indicator, with the few CHUNG-HOON Sailors who also made the christening, weíll have an impressive crew.
Iíve been slated to be the CHUNG-HOON operations officer and should be arriving in Pascagoula sometime mid-summer. Iím eagerly looking forward to preparing CHUNG-HOON for commissioned service in the US Navy, and anticipate nothing less than a fantastic tour!

I attended the christening of the Chung Hoon (DDG-93) on January 11, 2003 and it will be an honor to serve aboard her. I intend to help keep the tradition and reputation of her namesake Admiral Gordon P. Chung Hoon alive. I hope we make him proud. It was a pleasure meeting all the prospective crew members of Chung Hoon and the crewmembers of the USS Sigsbee (DD-502). If the christening was anything like what being a crewmember of the best destroyer in the Navy is, then my tour in the Chung Hoon will be my best tour in the Navy.
I took many pictures at the christening. If anyone would like to have copies any of the pictures, let me know and I will email copies to you. Good luck to all of us aboard Chung Hoon (DDG-93).
